it’s to confuse you cause you hope

From the program:

‘cause you hope by christopher cole The parts of it I have to tell you: My eldest brother passed away. When

looking through his things, I found six un-labeled mini cassetts. The cassettes had on them my brother speaking about various things, ambient sounds, and unused space.

I listened to all of it. Certain signals were buried in noise. He left the recorder on by accident sometimes. There

are possibly remnants from past recording being recorded over This piece is a documentation of my attempt to recover those last bits of information.

The process:

I uploaded the tapes into ProTools and played them back. Every time I came across what I thought could be a word or a phrase, I would loop the area again and again, applying all the audio tools available to me to try and make clear what is being said. Once I am clear what is being said– or I have given up on making sense of the passage — I move on through the tape to the next bit of information.

All of the silences between passes have been removed.

The recording is otherwise untouched, making what I hope to be an honest documentation of the attempt.
